Project Brief:
Clients:
Young doctor couple with 2 small kids.
Spend most of their time in artificial, closed hospital spaces.
Desire a design that helps them unwind and relax with a South Indian traditional touch.
Site and Context:
Trapezoidal shape with average dimensions of 35 feet road facing and 55 feet deep.
West-facing with a 23 feet access road.
Located in a fast-developing suburb of Coimbatore with neighboring plots having 2-3 floor houses.
Challenge: Design a spacious floor plate with good lighting, natural ventilation, and privacy.

Ground Floor:
2 car parks, sitout, foyer, sunken living room, dining hall, landscaped atrium, bedroom with common toilet, external deck area, kitchen with store and utility.
Unique treatment of landscape deck with MS grilles and terracotta jaali blocks for safety and privacy.
Mezzanine Floor:
Informal living area floating above the sunken living room.
Cantilevered metal platform with deck flooring for complete view of the house.
Guest bedroom with attached toilet and access to open terrace.
First Floor:
Study area with a spiral staircase leading to the terrace level.
First-floor lobby doubling as a study space with ample natural light.
Master bedroom with dressing room and attached toilet, cantilevered structure overlooking the double-height space and mezzanine deck.
Material Palette:
Exposed brick, solid wood joinery, terracotta roof tiles, and jaali blocks.
Kota and athangudi tile flooring.
MS grill with terracotta tiles for chajjas.
Facade Design:
Distinct design with solar shading brick jaali and open terrace with charupadi detail.
Exposed brickwork with jaali pattern on the ground floor sitout wall.
Accent brickwork in the compound wall for a cohesive look.
