Convertion of barn built in the 1930s. The main concept for this holiday house was to keep the charcteristic of the outer apperance of an barn, while transforming the inside to a modern and bright living space. Therefore only existing openings in the brick walls were used to realize the natural lighting.
The beams of the prussian ceiling were used as guidelines to place walls and separate the spaces. The first floor contians the rather public areas like kitchen, dining and gathering while the upper floors are mainly occupied by more private spaces.
The convertion is only visible, when the owners are 'home' and the wooden gates are open so that the warm light shines from the inside, Once they leave again, you just see a barn from the 1930s.
Whenever possible, sustainable materials were used. The main one are clay plaster for the walls, flax insolation in the roof, reused tiles, wood fibre insolation for walls, ...
