The site originally comprised a bungalow together with a detached garage to the rear with a store under, the dwelling had been extended in a haphazard manner over the years. Our client sought to convert and extend the garage and to replace the original bungalow to provide two separate dwellings.
The site is very steep, sitting on a hillside and originally only had pedestrian access from the road below.
We worked closely with a structural engineer to ensure that the site design took into account the retention of the land behind. Both dwellings were designed with views over the river in mind and glazing was maximised without detracting from the sensitive design, to blend in well with the surrounding area.
A detailed landscaping scheme was prepared by our landscape architects, including retained stone lawned paved terraces providing seating and recreational areas with views to the river.
