The Concept
:
Localisation
Main idea was to locate in Sopot a project that would be a counterweight for the newbuild, semihistorical architecture that is destroying the character of the City. One of the characteristic examples is "Centrum Haffnera" that was supposed to be build in a character of historical buildings but in the end even the scale of object was changed, not mentioning the detail which recalls postmodernism from early 90's. Continuing the thought of counterweight project was located on 1 Maja street which is direct continuation of Monte Cassino street- one of the most popular pedestrian areas and the one leading to the "Forest Opera" in Sopot.

Function:
Sopot, city that some time ago was recognized as place of many artistic happenings is slowly changing into polish Las Vegas full of plastic and kitch. Small shopping malls, kebaps and huge hotels with conference halls are constantly changing the apperance of teh city. Places providing alternative entertainment are slowly being closed. For example "Kino Polonia". Nevertheless there is one exception, building of a scena kameralna of Teatr Wybrzeże. Modern, subtle architecture nicely fit in scale is one of the rare examples of new buildings not soaring with kitch. Ideal solution would be extending theatrical functions in the city. Project consists of 2 auditoriums: 560 an 110 people, which would perfectly extend 250. Ideally those 2 theatres would raise prestige of the place put some more life to the place stimulating social life and art happenings. Another advantage would be leading people into direction of Trojmiejski Park Krajobrazowy and extending social area up to crossing with 1 Maja stret with Moniuszki street.
