Drama theatre concept in Baku is designed to commemorate 15th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s contemporary architecture development plan.
The drama theatre is designed point by point as a 42 meter high and 170 meter long contemporary showplace with complex structure and seating capacity of 1,600.
The theatre is located on the area of 4,5 ha, or 484,400 sq. ft close to the business, political and cultural centre of the city. According to the design concept, area surrounded by this territory is organized, and ‘new architecture’ of human settlements is implemented. The territory is provided by underground parking for 800 cars. The parking has all necessary technical and fire safety systems.
Main volume of the building is divided into two blocks communicating by entrance hall. In the first block there are hall for 1,200 spectators, office and stock rooms, restaurant, staff dining room, dressing rooms, studios and utility rooms. Second block includes hall for 400 spectators, office and stock rooms.
Entrance on the ground floor is facing main parkway. On entering the building visitors find themselves in a distribution entrance hall with atrium. There are two checkrooms, bathrooms, box offices, office and stock rooms on the ground floor.
General style is based on ties between traditional and modern architecture. Façade is represented by an organically flexible structure in a series of flowing lozenge-shaped fractals. Smooth extended forms of titan and limestone are flowing to the end point, exploding and forming window openings. All-around membrane is representing thousands of sculpturesque forms.
Interior design is repeating exterior in its coral idea.
