Siol translated the client’s vision into a refined spatial experience that balances industrial grit with tactile warmth for this distinctive restaurant and bar in Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood. Set within the shell of an existing historic structure, the design embraces the raw materiality of steel-clad walls, poured-in-place concrete surfaces, and live-edge wood counters to establish a layered palette that is both sculptural and grounded. Low, wood-slat ceilings compress and define the dining zones, fostering intimacy within the open floor plan. An open kitchen anchors the izakaya-inspired concept, creating transparency between preparation and presentation while activating the energy of the space. The architecture foregrounds craft and permanence, engaging patrons through thoughtful spatial sequencing, material contrast, and an atmosphere of understated theatricality.
