dkstudio inc was retained by a developer to overhaul a previously designed and permitted project in the East End Film District of Toronto. The inherited property was already complete with foundation, core, and partial structure, and required a new design scheme to better integrate the traditional Victorian housing typology to the north and the rugged industrial fabric to the south.
With these anchors in place, dkstudio inc sought to redesign the façade after the Bauhaus factory aesthetic to be in keeping with language of the industrial context, integrating the flavor of the hip, young demographic into the residential development with splashes of color, exaggerated signage, and an entirely opened ground floor of retail as an interface with the community.
The interior layouts were further re-planned to become more efficient and better suit the lifestyles of its projected inhabitants, making the building a point of intersection to reconcile the two characteristic neighbourhoods of the city.
