Downton Primary School set in the rural village of Downton, Wiltshire. The main school building is a Grade II listed Victorian building dating from 1895.
Footprint Architects were commissioned to design a new entrance to the school. The key design driver for the project was to create a generous, modern and welcoming school entrance alongside the historic village school building.
The entrance is conceived as a pavilion set within the limited but much loved school garden. With references to natural building materials, within the locality, the principal elevation was conceived as part of the garden and features a ‘living wall’ of climbers.
