For over 100 years the Dora Moore School has occupied the block at 9th and Corona. The first building was constructed in 1889 and the new building constructed in 1909. An alley separated two buildings connected by an overhead bridge. The school had eight primary entry doors. In addition, the site had limited outdoor play areas with no indoor recreation space. Denver Public School District had sought to close this neighborhood icon as it appeared to not meet any of the applicable educational standards. Joe Poli and Dennis Humphries, as principals in a prior architectural firm, were retained to create a vision for this landlocked facility. Through an intensive and inclusive design process, the School has been planned to provide unique educational opportunities for the next 100 years.
