This project involves a remodel of and addition to the 30-year-old community and senior center. The entire scope of work consisted of an ADA Study of the site and building, UBC Study of existing buildings for compliance with established criterion, a long range facility use program, long range phased master plan, phased design documents to support the master plan, phased construction documents to support the master plan, Assistance to the City with bidding and negotiations, construction administration services and post construction services. A series of community meetings were held to investigate residents’ wishes for the community center and its services. Based on this information and input from the City of Las Vegas, RAFI completed the master plan around three future phases of upgrades and improvements. The design philosophy stems from a metaphor of community rejuvenation, renewal of human spirit and fellowship within society. The forms and colors are derived from desert spring time occurrences - spring breezes, winter thaw and new blooms - evoking the time of environmental, spiritual and human rejuvenation. The ribbons of undulating walls partially veil the strength of the communal forms within. RAFI was selected to continue with Phase I development of the project. Construction documents were delivered one and one-half months ahead of schedule and the change order rate was significantly below anticipated projection for rehabilitation and remodeling projects.
