This house, for the family with two little children and their parents, is placed in a very small site and surrounded by neighbors very closely. The client requested to have feeling of openness for their private territory. We outline the shape of the house as if we are cutting out the corners of the land to create openings so that the view from inside will face to the corner of the neighbors house where there are no windows on the wall. We use those cut-out land as gardens, parking, and entry court to create long approach. Instead of dividing house into many tiny rooms, we create many floors with different level with different character. Some of the floor have very low ceiling (1.2m), others have angled ceiling or high ceiling. Different character of space makes territorial feelings of each inhabitant easily. Under the variety of floors, the living and dining room are remained with over 6m ceiling height with dynamic shape of the space. This system also made advantage of scenery from each floor that eye level is different from other houses. With those designs, inhabitants can feel the distance from neighbors even though they live very close to the others. We create the bath room on the top floor, next to garden terrace, higher than neighbors windows. Be undressed, be able to open the windows and enjoy the private sky, inhabitants can create their open-territorial feelings more in mental than it is in physical.
