Domo House is a one-person house with the full program necessary for comfortable living but with one restriction – minimization of required surface.
The one-person house provides the potential inhabitant with the comfort of having a house, an intimacy with nature, distance from neighbors, and a garage for cars, motorcycles or bikes with storing space. Everything takes its cue form the owner's character.
The main idea of the project was to design each room in such a way that they do not lose anything from their functionality. At the same time, the house has to meet land development conditions that require using gable roofs.
The design concept of the house is a simple cube which includes the main functions — living room with the kitchenette and the bedroom. In order to fulfill land development conditions, the bedroom was lifted to the loft and the garage was moved under it. The stairs leading to the bedroom are based on the garage wall. The windows along the stairs brighten the staircase. The window shapes also underline the dynamism of the building which rises in the same direction. The bedroom is illuminated by three skylights situated on the eastern part of the roof. Finally, the living room has glazed windows on the western side.
Materials used to finish the house were chosen to fit the building into the neighborhood. The house is located on Zakamycze Street in Krakow, on the edge of the Wolski forest. The area consists of modern architecture and aged rural houses, as well as structures from Fortress Krakow, such as forts and bomb shelters.
The garage is coated with thin, bright, gray sandstone without any flaws or stains. The rest of the house is covered with black, titanium-zinc plates. These materials were traditionally used in the surrounding area.
In 2013 this house was chosen by the Association of Polish Architects (SARP) as one of the 10 best projects representing Poland in the V4 Family Houses exhibition.
