The game of dominoes is a tradition on Calle Ocho. This project is a shltered venue at which people can play the game. My partner's and my design is absed off of a pattern of circles. The undulating facade is clad in ceramic tile, for which this part of Miami is known.
The building is naturally lit and ventilated through the ceiling. The columns widen at the top, and are topped by domes on the exterior. Here light and fresh air enter through laterns, and filter down through holes in the ceiling, which are based off of the circle design. This design would create a unique experience, because though there is adequate light at the human level, where there is glazing, the massive height of the building would cause the upper portion of the room to be very dark. Then, at the ceiling, a small amount of diffused light would enter through the holes, creating a dim glow just at the ceiling.
