Harmonious Integration
The design of the project includes four building sections, each standing on a two-level sunken parking deck. A striking feature of the design is that each building section has a distinct rotation, oriented towards specific historical elements in the old center of Alkmaar, located across the water. This creates a dynamic skyline with diverse volumes, allowing each apartment to enjoy a unique view.
The twisting of the building sections not only provides an aesthetically pleasing appearance but also offers practical advantages. The various rotations result in a varied selection of apartments with different views.
Within the complex, a semi-public inner courtyard is created, accessible to residents. This courtyard includes a rooftop garden, which is a valuable addition to the living space of the apartments. It offers residents a pleasant outdoor area where they can relax, gather, and enjoy greenery and calming elements.
On the northern side of the project, five city villas border the water, creating a direct connection with the water-rich character of the surroundings. The city villas are carefully designed to align with the lower buildings in the area, resulting in a harmonious interplay between the new and existing architecture.
This architectural approach results in a harmonious integration of the project into the environment, serving as a contemporary and refreshing addition to the historical urban landscape of Alkmaar, located across the canal. With its varied views, green rooftop garden, and water-rich surroundings, the project offers an attractive living environment that meets modern residential needs while respecting the city’s rich heritage.
