DIXI Polytool is a major company in the micromachining industry that settled in Le Locle in 1967. The existing 8’000m2 factory not only needed to be extended in order to supply the company’s development, but the image and the comfort of the users had to be updated.
The desire of the client was to show the company’s dedication to high precision through a neat and elegant new façade. The entire refurbishment of the envelope led to the renewal of the façade with white aluminum skin.
As the site reached its limit in terms of construction surface, the extension was brought as a cantilever over the entrance of the factory. This way, the construction could be led without stopping the production, allowing the 180 employees to continue their work.
The coating of the extension is made of Alucobond, a composite material with an aluminum finish that reflects the environment and gives the new volume a light and delicate aspect.
Inside, the helical stairs that lead to the conference room and a new open-space office reminds the drills that the factory produces.
