Plaza created by weathering
DILLY DALLY

-----

A plan for a seaside plaza where people gather. The slender, wall-like architecture protects the plaza from strong winds and provides a topography that captures beautiful views of the sky and sea. Beyond the logic of the designer, we sought a space that is naturally determined by the environment.

Like finding a comfortable place in the shade of a natural rock

The plan was to build a plaza for BBQs and various events, as well as a restaurant and other stores on a seaside site with a beautiful sunset view. The site is surrounded by ocean and forest, and although it offers a beautiful view, strong winds in some seasons make it impossible to use the outdoor space at all. Therefore, we decided to create a place like a rocky shade protected from the wind by arranging a long and narrow space to enclose the plaza as much as possible.

Outlines drawn from the surrounding environment

The space with the best view of the ocean is the glass-walled restaurant, and from the plaza, the restaurant can be used as a large window to view the ocean. In addition, the elevation is planned in such a way that the forest and the sea are beautifully cut off from the surrounding miscellaneous views, such as the parking lot and unused buildings, which are shielded by a standing wall.

Create a courtyard protected from strong sea breezes with elongated volumes and plantings. The arrangement and shape of the volume were adjusted based on an analysis of the sea breezes.
The seating area is a transparent window from the courtyard, allowing visitors to view the ocean.

Open interior as close to the outside as possible

The elongated volume, with glass walls on both sides, allows the landscape to pass through, making the interior as close to the outside as possible. From the serene second floor, visitors can enjoy a two-dimensional sea cut out like a painting.
