UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA ARCH 744 CRITIC: FERDA KOLATAN objective: investigate the fabrication of digital structures through the use of rapid prototyping and computer-aided manufacturing technologies, which offer the production of building components directly from 3D digital models. Pluripotent design strategies were developed to create a nonlinear and open ended model using Grasshopper as a tool. This new script controlled direction, density, and thickness of a set of points within a grid. Through formal and material testing, a ring system of components were developed and laser cut. Using a notching technique, each ring fit into it’s adjacent ring allowing the system to grow. PROJECT PARTNER: CHI DANG
