The Diener-Areal is situated in Schwamendingen, in a quarter on the perimeter of Zurich. The new residential building with 51 apartments is dedicated to the idea of a garden city through its small footprint and also tackles the tough reality of today's spatial structure. The apartment types are directly derived from the cross-section and the different depths of the building. The apartments' strongest characteristic is their depth of 19 metres. Combined with a room height of 2.70 metres the apartments feel extremely spacious. The colourless anodised aluminium of the building shell, the bronze coloured window bands and the ornamental concrete and asphalt in the exterior areas interpret the new residential use on the former industrial estate of the Diener construction company.
