Dickson
Tavern was constructed in 1815 and is Erie’s
oldest documented building. The building was remodeled and enlarged in 1841 to
be a single family residence. Owned by the City of Erie since 1923, Kidder Wachter Architecture
& Design purchased the building in 2010 to convert the vacant structure
into their architectural office. Exterior work included wood repair, painting,
and new handicap access and porch. Interior work retained the original room
layout and detail. Selective structural repairs, new finishes, HVAC, electrical
and plumbing systems were also installed.
The
tavern was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in
1981. All work complied with the Secretary
of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
