This project is a joint collaboration between the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department and Baylor Healthcare Southern Sector Healthcare Initiative. It involves the complete renovation and redesign of the existing 21,000 square foot recreation and health center built in 1965 for the City of Dallas. The renovation and addition accommodates a diabetes clinic, wellness center and recreation center and increases the size of the facility to approximately 24,000 square feet. Other program elements include a teaching kitchen, aerobics rooms, a game room, gymnasium, fitness room, classrooms, administrative offices and exam rooms. The facility is named after Juanita J. Craft, a prominent civil rights leader in Texas. Her abstracted image is etched in the glass front entry and is a point of pride in the historically African American neighborhood.
