DachisGroup's penthouse headquarters (a social business design company) was a very involved and expansive project for m | monroe design. Everything from designing the raw space, to managing the build out, to choosing the silverware, and specifying the weekly flower delivery's style was done by MMonroe and her team. Custom designs include: Desks, kitchen island, millwork, reception desk, signage, a credenza, and upholstery. The usual office design rules were rearranged, by placing hierarchy in the communal spaces and placing the executive offices toward the rear of the office. The open plan workspace is balanced by multiple break out spaces for small, medium/ large meetings, and quiet call booths. Other unique aspects of the design include, bike storage, and two shower rooms; Including one with a one-way mirror overlooking the city. The overhead lighting design is based on social networks (interconnectedness and concentration in areas with more social overlap). This concept was also mirrored in the upholstery fabric chosen for the booth benches of one of the meeting spaces. Lastly, the art was curated by MMonroe from the CEO's expansive personal collection, along with a few custom vitrines housing vintage computer parts.
After a little less than a year of planning and designing, construction began on the already partially gutted space. Formerly a law office, the heavy traditional feel of the wood paneling and dropped acoustic ceiling are long gone. Photo realistic renderings aided in making the big decisions and helped the client visualize MMonroe's uncommon lighting design/ plan. The construction drawings on file were produced by STG, a local architecture firm, while the construction was completed by Harvey Cleary Builders. Close project management by MMonroe ensured a smooth process and adherence to the overall vision at every step.
