This residential building of 100 dwellings has been
designed by Aguilar & Varona Architects.
The site takes place in an area in Bilbao, Spain,
close to the University of Deusto, across the river from the refurbished area of Abandoibarra, where Guggenheim Museum,
and other architectural icons have taken place.
A set of old residential buildings had to be
demolished, close to the railway lines. The main difficulty while construction, was the maintenance of
access to existing buildings and the later rehousing in the new building of 14
families.
The site is in the corner of 2 formerly narrow streets.
And we have now turned them into an area of rest where the neighbourhood can
enjoy a wide open space.
The new 7 storey residential building has been built
with stone ventilated façade from the
Valladolid area. The exterior image combines modern architecture with calm
lines and colours. The same exterior treatment has been given to the interior
courtyard, where special emphasis has been given to maintain the harmony of the
facade.
The patio is as important as the main façade, a
tranquil space where to relax…
