For my wedding in August of 2008, because of cost we needed to perform both a wedding ceremony and host a reception for two hundred guests in the same large hotel ballroom. Because the hotel staff would have to change over the entire space within a window of only 15 minutes, I designed a system of lighting and fabric that was both lightweight and effective in spatial separation. The final design was fully specified and contracted to ‘The Event Company’ in Charlottesville, VA which carried out the installation, change over and disassembly.A featured component of the design was an algorithm I wrote using the Processing.org scripting language, which I used to generated a series of ten 12’ x 4’ installations (above) which were printed on mylar and incorporated into the fabric system throughout the space.
