This Federal Health Care Center identified a need for a therapeutic healing garden for the courtyard area outside the community living center. Bailey Edward is ensuring the design for this healing garden will provide accessible gardening opportunities for residents, as well as a park-like atmosphere to be utilized for socializing and therapy. Phase One comprises the construction of the Bean Garden Walk (paving only), Veteran’s Overlook, and paving connection from the existing southeast parking lot to the existing building. Phase Two comprises the construction of the “Entry Court” and the Veteran’s Café & Garden. Phase Three comprises the construction of the “Private Garden”, Strolling Garden, Picnic Area, and Veteran’s Outlook Fireplace patio and Pergola. And, Phase Four involves the construction of the rock stream terrace, the practice green, community landscaping, and any remaining landscaping for previously constructed areas. The phased approach, outlined by Bailey Edward, includes design consideration for a picnic area, strolling garden, private garden, entry court, veteran’s overlook, ‘bean’ garden walk, and rock stream terrace. The phased approach taken was to develop a sequence that would allow for continued use of the existing outside spaces while still providing access for construction activities without damaging newly constructed areas.
