The New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene’s 2,800 staff members, from over 20 different existing leases, were relocated to 19 floors of a new office building developed by Tishman Speyer in Long Island City. The agency’s new office space features an open workstation plan, which moves away from the traditional closed office models and follows New York City’s new agenda to foster greater communication between individuals. Keeping with the agency’s initiative to encourage physical exercise, the consolidation features 4 interconnecting convenience stairs, bicycle storage and showers. Egress stairs are also opened up for staff use. The New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene is a LEED Gold certified project.
