Owned by the CEO of an international tech conglomerate, this sublime 4500 square feet South Delhi duplex is the outcome of the client's desire to merge simplicity and style and minimize interference from the outside world. Envisioned by Villa Ortiga's Founder and Architectural Designer, Sarabjit Singh, the design creates relief from the hustle-bustle of the client's busy lifestyle in the form of a low-tech, vibrant retreat laced with art and artefacts. With a speedy execution in under 60 days, the home's interiors present an alluring mix of Indian and global decor.
The built structure is separated from the chaotic roadway through a paved garden leading to a private courtyard. The lower level is essentially a habitable basement consisting of an indoor home theatre on one side and a living area inclusive of a bar, kitchen and dining space on the other. Both the areas are separated by a common lobby. Private areas such as the family dining, lounge and bedrooms are located on the upper level. Two large-sized outdoor decks have been provided as the client frequently entertains guests for work and leisure.
The spaces are not limited by individual styles. Instead, they consist of a delightful amalgamation of influences from all over the globe. From vintage artefacts and ethnic brackets to modern furnishings, fabrics, and lighting, the house tastefully blends the historical and contemporary. The decor includes not only accessories collected by the client in his extensive travels, but also internationally hand-picked furniture and other assortments- sourced through Villa Ortiga's extensive worldwide network.
The common lobby at the lower level consists of a low-height luxe seating, highlighted by an enthralling oriental carpet and a brightly coloured painting- located in one corner. The feature wall in the area adorns ornamental mirrors and a glossy black console that showcases ceramic vases, antiques, and elegant lampshades.
On one end, the living room comprises two seating zones, each designed in a distinct style. Vintage chandeliers, patterned upholstery, colorful ethnic wall art and decorative rugs characterize the first one. The other seating area is relatively minimalistic with a grey and blue theme. In the bar zone, dark brown marble is used in the high-top table that contrasts with the beige marble flooring. For dining, a simple small six-seater round table is placed in front of the bar table. Large, double-glazed windows in the room maximize the courtyard's view. The courtyard consists of a delicately carved wooden bench, an ornate rectangular mirror, elephant sculptures and potted plants. With the display set against a sandstone background, these items render the space with an exclusively Indian appearance.
On the other end, the theatre room is fashioned in a 70s retro theme. A gallery wall on one side displays black and white portraits of famous film celebrities, contrasted with a perky pink and white vertically striped wallpaper. In addition, elements such as wooden flooring and plush lounge chairs further distinguish the area from other spaces in the residence.
Moving upwards, an ethnic jali piece and pendant lights add a distinct appeal to the staircase. The family dining area on the upper level is modern, with a marble-finished six-seater table, simplistic leather upholstered chairs, a minimalistic wooden console, and a colourful water lilies painting. The lounge consists of thoughtfully placed furniture, such as a leather sofa and coffee table, and velvet upholstered swivel chairs. Furthermore, elements such as a bright red geometric rug, tasteful art and artefacts, and translucent curtains add an effervescent feel to the room. Like other spaces in the home, the bedrooms are ingrained with a combination of old-world charm and a contemporary look and feel.
High-quality furnishings and collectables have been sourced from some of the world's top manufacturers to transform the house into a dream space. Aesthetic wallpapers are acquired from the UK and the Netherlands, and a wide variety of lamps are sourced from Asia and Europe. The flooring comprises Italian oak wood and Italian marble. Carefully chosen pieces from India, Asia, and Europe are utilized for most of the furniture.
The townhouse successfully curates an exquisite ethos incorporating global essences, creatively integrating luxury with comfort.
