Del Monte Residence & Gardens

2015 John Staub Award, ICAA Texas

The L-shaped massing of this house helps satisfy a program requirement that combines a large yet flexible entertainment space with a distinct and separate residence. A ballroom pavilion fronts the street accessed from a motorcourt while the residence extends along the west side, mostly hidden from view.

The house is influenced by 18th Century French architecture and is rendered in stucco and Texas limestone accents. The landscape, also designed by Curtis & Windham, include terraces and formal parterre gardens that become more informal woodland meanders further from the house. Ivy-covered changing rooms and a striped metal-roof tent pavilion are the backdrop for a round dipping pool.
