The main concept of the project is to give identitity to the public space and value propperly the forgotten treasure of the post-socialist industrial city Calarasi. The main character from the story is The Zoological Garden, a natural wonder that developed from the personal collection of a passioned zoolog and became the biggest zoological garden in the country . The most favorable for the exotic animals( mamifers especially) was the welthy natural environement in which the cityy was situated. Calarasi is just around 70 000 inhabitants and despite its natural richness was established by the comunists around 1970 as one of the main target cities for Industrial exploatation, which changed the face of the city for the next 25 years .Before the economical decline and transition period betwen the two political systems the urban landskape of the city had transformed into a decayed one, with the majority of the active population unimployed, liveing in monotone, repetitive blocks that had no architectural cuality and soon they started to show their poor construction . It was obvious that the city was not built for the people, but just to shelter the workforce for the big industrial platforms. No public space, no urban social life, and the major part of the inhabitants that gathered from all around the country in order to get a better life...and therefore no comunity. The only element the identified impressively with the history of the new city , was the Zoological Garden, an exotic mistery for the inhabitants , that also had to put up with very hard times , beeing confiscated for some years for the comunists, thing that lead to it´s degradation and death of many animals. As an urbanist, and part of the history written above I gathered all the necesarry information, put all my personal experience and close percepetion of the case and based my degree project on this story. Bellow I will jost show a bunch of how my vision for the new city was to be illustrated.
