The house is on a site with dramatic topographic features: a steep slope, dense trees, a swale/stream- way, and lots of wildlife.
The overriding priority for the design of this home was to provide an energizing and transformative way of living.
There is purposeful tension between the house being both detached and floating above the earth and yet having a full engagement with nature
A modern, minimalist approach was the overriding design aesthetic, maintaining a focus on spatial qualities rather than materials and detailing becoming another aesthetic element.
For the exterior, galvalume corrugated steel in full-height lengths was selected to provide a clean, neutral backdrop that echoes the surrounding trees through shadow patterns.
The result is a home that engages with nature in a focused, conceptually strong manner.
