Constructed
in 06-07, the residence for Mr. B.D.Patel, in a 330 Sq. Mt. Plot at Sector 8, Gandhinagar,
was mainly derived from the existing lifestyle of the clients and leaning
towards the more elaborate articulation. It was also stipulated that the house
be designed to be Vaastu compliant.
The plan was designed
to be clean and straight lines as recommended by the principles of Vaastu and
all the articulation was applied in the three dimensional form. One of the
prime reasoning deployed was to have a central emulated courtyard for creating
a wind tunnel and channeling the hot air out of the habitat. Since the clients'
lifestyle implied recurrent social activities and large gatherings, the formal living,
dining and informal living spaces were designed as open spaces, albeit, with
the informal space on the first floor and a fluid curved roof uniting the
spaces affording possibility of
visual/aural contact yet offering enough privacy of a hierarchical nature. The
fluidity of the roof was the spring point of the aesthetic language and the
overall treatment was determined to be a derivative of late Art Nouveau style
of early 20th century.
