Select an 'evil' client then design their headquarters. A task carried out across the country as a routine in almost any design office. The first part of the studio focused on defining evil. FEMA was the original case study particularly looking at their response effort during and after Hurricane Katrina. A lot of research was put into the search for evil and through many networks of information, the control mechanisms used and displayed during the Katrina case lead me to research military control, asymmetric warfare, future wars, urban wars, and military technology. Civil unrest leads to civil control, civil control leads to innovative technology and design which eventually goes back into a post military consumer use. Cases in point the internet, smart phones, satellites, robotics, GPS, etc.Through these many networks of control and militarized information RAND and DARPA were researched eventually leading to the design of DARPA's new corporate headquarters. The images displayed here represent part of the research put forth in determining what exactly the organization is responsible for, how it could be considered evil, and how it has become a permanent part of our government. Renderings represent a timeline from the inception of the organization during the Cold War and the Soviet launch of 'Sputnik' to its current place in society, military, surveillance, modern technology, and control.
