A continuous and wide space is delivered to
the public, adding all previously split and disjointed surfaces on sidewalks,
parking, roads and waste spaces, dignifying this public space so far was
slaughtered by the heavy presence of traffic.
On this 1.450 m2 continuous plane two
different types of spaces are established. Firstly, a new concrete
topography will be build, a textured carpet that defines a new concept of
public space in Calatayud. The surface of this platform is similar to a
piece of natural terrain, a wavy surface, a topography which will let young
people to take better advantage of the space because different and inclined places
will appear, attractive for bikes, skateboards and skates. This cheerful
stone carpet produces a relief that defines the importance and singularity of this
space, rising and differentiating between the rest of the square which will have
a more calmed use. This second area is established as a carpet of
concrete pavers, weaved with coloured patterns which comprise the most
urban uses, the presence of a news stand and equipment, vegetation and access
to buildings, and the traffic path to access the parking of residents.
