The area surrounding the Dargah Sheikh Kalimullah, situated between the historic red Fort and Jama Masjid precintcs, is a privated owned land. The land is commercial in use, mostly occupied by local merchants. Its proximity to the historic precincts and easy access makes it a prime location for buisness, and due to lack of ground space is expanding vertically. Which is not a suitable development pattern in a heritage area on national and international significance.
Initially as part of the Jama Masjid Precinct Redevelopment plan, and now being implemented individually in collaboration with the owners of the property, the renewal plan accomodates 75 retail spaces, as opposed to existing 225, in a single storey with adequate breathing space for shoppers and tourists. The extension of the existing Mosque with the Dargah, along with provision of facilities for namazis and visitors to the dargah are also part of the renewal plan.
