Dangjin is developing the agriculture and steel industry in harmony, and recently it is one of the small and medium sized cities in the country where the population is steadily increasing. Due to the influx of population and the expansion of the city, the newly developed ordinary residential district on the outskirts of the old city is the target of the project. It is located in a well-arranged residential area, so the shape of the ground is straight,
Program
At the beginning, owner asked the concept of the building to the language Clinique center for children that he operated. At the time, it was a complex building with several programs, including the home of the owner. However, due to two design changes, the housing was removed and the function of the building was simplified with the general rental building.
'How do you make your rental space a little more attractive?'
How can you make it stand out from the surrounding buildings? What are the ways to make the public space more dramatic in addition to the privately leased space of the building? How can such a public space affect leasing space? These seemingly unanswered questions circled my mind in the process of planning.
Mass
As usual, new buildings in downtown area occupy as much space as possible, and have the fate of leasing the largest area. The JK building, too, was the biggest criterion for securing the number of parking spaces on a small land. I wanted the whole building to look simple and temperate. It was a desire to be something that was tightly knit and made of solid wood. What would be the overall appearance of a building if it was a single wall and a finished look that did not reveal the staircase or parapet of the rooftop? From the appearance of being able to be hard, the opening wanted to be able to take a more active view of the urban landscape into the interior of the building.
Material
The main material is a brick-like tile that can be easily accessed in recent years. It is a brick tile but different from bricks. I did not want to hide this point. I wanted to set the direction of the joint to be horizontal only and to say 'I am not a brick' in order to suggest the brick type tiles which are used for convenience of construction and cost reduction. The problem of finishing around the opening, which is the limit of the tile, was solved by the galvanized frame. Functional problems could be solved as a design element as well as solving. At the entrance of the building, a two-story structural retaining wall (300 mm in thickness) was standing. I wanted to juxtapose the opposite concept to the brick tile. This retaining wall was set as a pine pattern concrete with a vertical pattern as opposed to a brick type tile. I hoped that the visitors of the building going through this passage could feel the warmth of the wooden pattern. Unfortunately, the mistake in the construction process leaves a trail of foam tie, which leaves a deep regret.
