Presented as part of the 10th edition of the Concéntrico Festival in Logroño, Spain, the architectural installation "Dancing Carwash" invites you to join its mysterious choreography.
Dance and movement are a symbol of joy and celebration, offering a unique experience of the space around us. Traditional Spanish and local dances, such as the stilt dances of Anguiano or flamenco, incorporate hypnotic rotations into their choreography, for both dancers and spectators alike. "Dancing Carwash" seeks to recreate the experience of these rotations for visitors, evoking the dresses and fringes of dancers' costumes as they inflate and unfold during traditional dances.
To question this evolving relationship between the volume of objects, the installation draws inspiration from a daily artifact rooted in childhood memories: the automatic car wash.
At rest, the car wash’s columns play with the classical composition of an urban passage. The columns are arranged on a base that functions as a turntable, with integrated wooden gears. The columns are set in motion by the rotation of the base via a crank. As they move, the colorful filaments and fabrics unfurl, expanding the column’s volume. The different sizes of filaments and "skirts" create a festive atmosphere, inviting visitors to touch, dance, feel, and play.
"Dancing Carwash" invites you to partake in its vibrant celebration and hypnotic movements!
