The showroom is located on a 2,653 sqm lot in an industrial area on a crowded arterial road. The building will be used as a sales center for trucks and trailer heads.
A continuous folding plane organizes the building’s program as well as becomes the elemental form of the building. This continuous plane is clad in corrugated metal, to reflect the industrial image of the surrounding and the products displayed inside. Clear glass, used throughout the building’s front façade, maximizes transparency for the displayed products as well as augments the presence the folding plane. The west-facing façade uses a double skin, with operable windows with clear glass on the inside and perforated metal panels on the outside. To enhance the industrial feel of the building, the building’s steel structure is exposed. The steel columns and beams and the corrugated metal is purposefully shown both in the exterior and interior.
The front of the building is rotated at a 45 degree angle to answer the client’s request of having an east-facing main entrance, while the site is facing south. By rotating the front half of the building, the main entrance faces southeast, while still maintaining visibility from the street. Two floors of showroom space dominate the front elevation, while three floors of office space rise at the back. A green roof above the showroom space provides relaxation space for the office occupants and adds insulation to the space below.
