Dae-Eun Elementary School

Finalist, 2013 A+Awards, Institutional - Kindergartens, Primary & High Schools
The project was meant  to design the ‘students lounge’  of the elementary  school  where many students spent their time after school till their parents came back home. The place should be designed for kids freely lying down, rolling over, taking naps, reading, and doing homeworks without getting bored. The curved shape furniture - Donguri- was invented to house kids‘ various activities and to frame broken arc views of the sky and the mountain surrounding the school. The place was divided two area. One is the raised platform with heating floor panels where Donguries and sinked benches are plugged in. The area is designed for the 'life style of sitting on the floor' which is Korean common life style at home to provide more relaxing environments to Kids. The other area is designed with hard floor and desks for more school-like activities. When desks are lifted and hidden in to the walls for flexible usage for the space accomodating various group activities.
