The desire to be part of an active urban environment and bustling downtown area prompted these clients to seek us out for a fully customized condominium build-out for an unfinished shell in an otherwise complete downtown Fort Worth high-rise condominium. The unit encompasses an open living, dining and family space, master suite, guest bedroom and study. Creative millwork storage allowed the owners to downsize by almost 50 percent from their previous home without sacrificing functionality.
Working within the limitations of the building, the design team maintained the expansive feel of the shell space and highlighted the dynamic 180-degree urban views. A series of wood-clad enclosures were developed to flexibly display art, disguise infrastructure and support areas and create a backdrop to an open living and dining area. Attention was paid to sightlines across and through the unit to give the illusion of space, with views of the artwork as end points.
The master suite was separated from other rooms and has a master bathroom that works to visually expand the room. An open shower and acid-etched mirror on the walls subtly reflect light and images while dissolving the edge between solid walls and windows.
