This two-story residence is located in a suburban area about an hour’s drive from Tokyo. The structure is formed in wood but is covered with plaster, and exterior side walls are painted white to create a clear contrast between the concrete-like front and rear facades.
On the interior, a dark tile reminiscent of the earth floors in old Japanese houses extends to the yard beyond, while tatami mats run along the earth-colored floor in the living room. The combination of tatami and tile seeks to harmonize Japanese style and western style.
