Cua Dai Green Happiness Park was designed in 2019 and completed in 2021. The Park cooperates with the Sống Foundation, Cua Dai Ward Committee, Hoi An City, and k59 atelier. The Park aims to create a place for children to play while raising concerns about environmental sustainability and local culture.
The abandoned park area is in Phuoc Thinh's residential area. Due to its lowest terrain, the Park becomes the water collection navel of the whole area. The entire park area is flooded during the rainy season and cannot be used. Five ideas based on five problems of the current situation such as:
1/Flooding problem: With low terrain, the Park will still act as an area to allow water storage, along with the "cut and fill" method, so necessary areas will be raised to make room for other areas. Sandpits in the center are recessed.
2/ Diversity of trees for shade: The Park will be planted with various shade trees (native trees and trees that can withstand the ocean climate). Plants are small in size to increase adaptability over time.
3/ Maximize permeability (avoid surface concrete): The Park uses permeablematerials to cover the entire area.
4/Multi-purpose for many people: The Park has many areas with different functions to maximize the needs of users (older adults, children of all ages, and teenagers)
5/Native cultural factors: Cua Dai Beach has been facing the problem of coastal erosion for many years. The beach, with its long strip of sand for children, no longer exists. The Park wants to create a space to play with sand in the sea and aim for children's free movement. Sand pit cleaning after the storm is also an activity to raise awareness about protecting and developing the Park.
