Located in South Congress, Crux Climbing Center is the result of a converted industrial warehouse and auto body shop into an indoor rock climbing facility. The roof of the existing structure was elevated and enhanced with skylights to increase visibility and natural light. In doing so a more dynamic and communal space for climbing events, youth programs and competitions was created adding to the recreational attractions of the neighborhood.
The black metal siding pays tribute to the industrial character of the site, while the monolithic glass façade brings in much needed natural light and views of nature from the upstairs yoga studio. As a result, the aesthetic of the project has transformed into a simple, open yet iconic space that encourages playful interactions and creates a connection to the outdoors.
