Crux 18 reflects a contemporary approach to apartment building design by The Hive Architects, located in the South sector of Athens. The architectural composition clearly emphasizes horizontality, and employs slanted/angled wall edges, to shape “movement” while clarity of form and cohesion remain explicit.
The projecting floor slabs, emphasize “depth” and shape the identity of the building.
Large, full-height glazing allow ample natural light and continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces, while the spacious verandas on each level function as a natural extension of the living spaces.
The use of transparent material as balcony railings, intensifies the feeling of lightness and ensures unobstructed views to the sea and the natural environment.
A key element of the design is the integration of lush planting along balcony edges , with cascading greenery muffling the facades. This softens the building’s geometry and introduces a strong biophilic element to the project.
This green "cladding" presents us with an aesthetic as well as environmental advantage, as it contributes to shading, thermal comfort and the overall sustainability of the building
At the lowest level, a linear reflective pool runs parallel to the building, and constitutes the key element of spatial experience. The reflection of light and views on the water surface enhance the atmosphere of tranquillity and luxury, while its integration into the landscape, creates a smooth transition between architecture and the natural environment.
At the same time, the water feature on the upper terraces, upgrades the “balcony with a view” to a territory of pleasure and multi-sensory experience .
The choice of earthly and white tones, natural textures and timber cladding in the recesses and cantilever ceilings, allows that the materials palette connects the building to the environment, and aligns "warmth" to the modern aesthetic.
Linear lighting integrated along the edges of the volumes, underlines their geometry and highlights the composition especially after sunset, reciting the building’s architectural principles.
Overall, Crux 18 is a project that combines elegance, functionality and spatial qualities. In this impressive shell that promises a contemporary living experience, dynamic geometry, landscape, light and water coexist in perfect harmony.
