The Crown Fire House is a 3,000 square foot home sited in a tall ponderosa wood in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The rear of the lot abuts Santa Fe National Forest land. The structure’s contemporary design harmonizes with the tall trees by emphasizing vertical lines. Tall ceilings and steeply pitched roofs lead the eye upward. The plan’s angled geometry closely follows the deep furrowed topography, anchoring the composition.
Interior finishes tend to natural materials like wood and stone. Large spans of glass flood spaces with daylight.
The abode narrowly survived the terrible Cerro Grande Fire of 2000 which took hundreds of the neighboring homes.
