Baltimore's beloved, Cross Street Market, located in the historic Federal Hill community while very successful, was in dire need of a renovation. Caves Valley Partners and BCT Design Group eagerly took on the task of blending the old market with a new layout and retail thinking to invigorate the tenant mix while staying in touch with the Baltimore food traditions.
One of the first moves was to open the slender market to the exterior. The reintroduction of natural light to the formerly bunker-like market creates an open atmosphere. New cement floors were poured, allowing for varied seating elevations and new pads for the vendors. The overall interior has a lighter industrial atmosphere and gives the focus over to the vendors. The new layout also provides six common seating areas for a combined total of 600 seats inside and outside the building between Light and Charles streets. Baltimore's markets have always been a vital part of the city fabric, and now Cross Street Market has a bright future ahead.
