Spacesmith designed Cremieux’s first New York retail store. The privately owned company recently moved their headquarters from Paris to New York City. Located in a landmarked building in Soho, the design marries the brand’s classic sporting style with the neighborhood’s urban chic.
The challenge was to open up the two-story, 800-square-foot space without compromising the structural integrity. Spacesmith replaced and enlarged windows to increase the amount of natural daylight filtering in. Dividing walls at the top of a connecting stair were replaced with glass to continue this idea of transparency. Walls were left exposed with sealed brick.
Spacesmith designed merchandise displays that include adjustable shelving and hanging racks. The units appear to float in the space as all installation items are hidden and discreet cove lighting utilized. Dressing rooms are located at the same spot on both floors and share a double height tower wall that extends through the first floor to the second. The custom made check out area sits at the foot of the connecting stair, in front of a tin-wrapped decorative wall that extends up through the mezzanine.
