The brief was to extend the existing semi-detached Edwardian house at ground level and to remodel the existing standard loft dormer to maximise space for a master bedroom suite.
The end result is a luxury home suitable for contemporary family life. By converting the loft, the total floor area of the house was significantly increased by making maximum use of the existing building envelope. In the roofspace, additional headroom was created by dropping the ceilings on the floor below, while the roof’s existing gables were exploited to form a rich and characterful bedroom suite. One gable contains a dressing room, while a new bathroom features a freestanding bath in the other gable. A steam room has been fitted in the shower area, and the semi-open plan bathroom is offset by large format porcelain tiles and mosaics. On the ground floor, a deep fully glazed extension houses a large dining area and provides excellent views from the house across the garden, and brings plentiful daylight into the existing kitchen.
