Located in Shanghai Jiading Huiyuan Road No. 55 (上海市嘉定区工业区产业园).
Within the common background of industrial transformation in China, the existing industrial parks need to be reinterpreted and redefined from regulation, planning, function and other aspects. What is the new generation of industrial park? The pioneer of Shanghai jiading industrial zone in China hope to shape the model for the future of industrial zone, which provides hybrid space for research, creation, working and experiment to a new generation of innovative industrial cluster. The first phase of the project is composed of eight single buildings.
The Design team wants to change the view of industrial space which is rigid and unapproachable. The concept derived from the traditional courtyard in which people can see varying sceneries from changing view-points. Also, we make use of the technique of combining three-dimensional courtyards and streets and modules, which creates a variety of indoor and outdoor space. In this way, the interaction of new spaces can stimulate human activity and thinking. At the same time, the design also respect Atelier FCJZ’s regulatory concept——giving priority to a 40m x40m typical unit and 10 m small scale mesh of the street.
Three-dimensional courtyard and street: designer creates a series of the yards with the different directions through subtraction. The yards are lifted to form Overhead space at ground floor of buildings to make the courtyard linked to the street. Terrace on the second floor is connected to the bottom and upper space of courtyard transitively. On the third floor, we built up the whole line of sight and the walking lounge bridge between the courtyards. Outdoor staircase builds up the vertical connection between one, two and three-layer platform in the courtyard.
Module combination: The office unit in the yard is modularized. However, through changing the permutation and combination and material, the unit adds more active element to the courtyards.
At the end, within the limited scale, we form a compound courtyard space with a series of vertical and horizontal changes. The four layers from bottom to the top are the courtyard, the platform, the lounge bridge and the roof garden respectively. The crisscross space softens the small scale of the yard, and each layer of indoor space also varies. Although the format mode does not choose to establish a bridge between the courtyards, but the preliminary design of the channel system still retains the possibility of contacting each other in the future. So the pavilions can be divided for many customers to use and can also be used in combination with the whole building or more, and each unit also can get the different size of indoor and outdoor space.
Gray brick steel, granite and colored glaze glass curtain wall are chosen as building materials. They form a strong contrast between tradition and modern in terms of scale and texture. The garden landscape featured primarily with bamboo increases the charm of traditional culture.
Architectural design satisfied the requirements of almost all the customers, such as uncertainty mode of maximum flexibility, activate communication and creative space and so on. People can work, think, relax, produce, display, communicate, interact and design here in the future, which is also the happiness of our design team. This is not only a group of new buildings, but also a new pattern of space.
