As a building type , the Cinema is an introverted space;
a dark interior geometrically determined by sight lines. The absence of its
exterior face is often covered by billboards.
It is the surface of the projection screen where the
magic happens. Activated through light, the cinematic space unfolds into the
infinite depth of the flat surface.
We propose a cinematic architecture that extends this
magic to the facade of the building.
The new facade transforms the building into a cinematic
machine that becomes animated through its surroundings. While the physical intervention is limited to
the surface, it reveals a new and infinite depth. Although the building does
not feature any moving parts, it is ever changing.
The new Pushkinsky Cinema projects its magic onto the
city and the city projects its life onto the Cinema. The Cinema Palace becomes
once again a cultural landmark.
