The Set Design is a collaboration with the Choreographer Tere O'Connor. His world-renowned dance company, Tere O'Connor Dance, featured its 25th year of experimental performance at the infamous Danspace Project located in the historic St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery in New York City. The construction and details of the project are a result of the stringent weight and time constraints we were asked to contend with to make the project a reality. In order to create an elaborate but simple assembly and transportability, we designed a system that was CNC routed to shorten the process of construction and assembly. 3D modeling techniques are used to quickly generated unfolded forms for the router and are then used as patterns to re-assemble the pieces. The technology allowed us to create a piece that became an interaction between the performance and its context. The set mediates between the performance itself and the surrounding church becoming a performance in itself.
