Situated at 28 Ted Rogers Way in the heart of downtown Toronto, 'Couture' made up of 42 storeys and 476 residential suites. The signature feature of the Couture design is seen through the tower massing. The tower plan is composed of three connected boxes. In essence two boxes linked by a central spine. The spine is rectangular in shape and houses the internal services. This plan type results in 4 additional corners to the plate, thus adding more corner suites that can take advantage of favourable corner glass spaces.
The podium was designed to be a glass box element than anchors the tower to grade, while linking the active Jarvis street façade to the passive internal courtyard. Through the podium the street façade is animated by housing amenity components on the ground and second floor along the Jarvis streetscape.
Glass is used to accentuate the sense of lightness to the masses and metal panel is used particularly on the end box masses. This use of material introduces a visual grid to the façade that vertically links the tower to both podium and mechanical penthouse.
A grid work of balconies are recessed into the box mass to further accentuate the tower through a play of light and shadow. The spine is an integral element to the massing that is illuminated in the event to further accentuate the verticality of the Tower.
